The draw for the league phase of the revamped Champions League has been completed, marking the start of a new era for the Champions League. This year, 36 teams will participate, an increase from the usual 32, and the tournament will adopt a ‘Swiss-style’ league format instead of the traditional group stage.
Under this new Champions League format, each team will play a minimum of eight matches against different opponents, four at home and four away. The league phase will conclude at the end of January, later than the usual December finish. The top eight teams will automatically advance to the knockout stages, while the teams ranked from ninth to 24th will enter a two-legged play-off for a place in the last 16. Teams finishing in the 25th to 36th spots will be eliminated from all competitions.
