A video shared by SaharaReporters captured the dramatic moment the lawmaker was surrounded and manhandled, while overwhelmed security operatives struggled to protect him. The crowd repeatedly chanted “bamayi,” a Hausa expression signifying rejection, as they voiced their anger.

“We have not seen him since he won the election. No projects, no visits, nothing,” one resident was heard shouting in the video.

Security personnel eventually forced their way through the crowd and whisked the visibly shaken lawmaker into a waiting vehicle before escorting him out of the area.

As of the time of filing this report, the identity of the assaulted House of Reps member has not been officially disclosed. Neither the Nigeria Police Force nor the House of Representatives has issued a formal statement on the incident.

The attack comes amid growing debate over lawmakers’ safety, especially following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive on the withdrawal of police escorts from certain VIPs.

“We voted him in, but he abandoned us completely,” an angry resident said during the confrontation.
