Veteran singer and social activist Charles Oputa, also known as Charly Boy, announced on his official X handle Friday that he would no longer show respect to Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka.

Charly Boy, a vocal critic of President Bola Tinubu, made this declaration in response to the renaming of the National Arts Theatre in Lagos after Soyinka.

President Tinubu had announced the renaming of the facility in tribute to Soyinka on his 90th birthday. In his post, Charly Boy protested the decision, lamenting, “The mighty have fallen, for mere beans.”

He further expressed, “Uncle WOLE, I’m withdrawing all the respect I once had for you. When late Jimmy Johnson talked about you in the 90s, I thought he was just teasing you. Wow! How some of our mighty ones have fallen, for beans, beans, beans, rice, and plantains.”
