American R&B singer Chris Brown has been ordered to remain in custody by a UK court following his arrest in connection with a serious assault charge linked to an incident in 2023.
The 35-year-old entertainer, known for chart-topping hits like “Kiss, Kiss,” was apprehended early Thursday morning at Manchester’s Lowry Hotel, shortly after flying into the UK via private jet.
His arrest stems from an alleged assault that reportedly took place on February 19, 2023, at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district.

According to reports from The Sun, Brown is accused of attacking music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle at the upscale venue in Hanover Square.
On Friday, the singer appeared before Manchester Magistrates’ Court, where District Judge Joanne Hirst denied him bail and ordered him held in custody until June 13. He is expected to appear next at Southwark Crown Court in London for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
The court’s decision to keep him in custody has thrown his European tour plans into doubt. Brown has sold-out shows scheduled for June 8 in the Netherlands and June 11 in Germany—just two days before his next court appearance.
Police confirmed that Brown is facing a charge of “grievous bodily harm with intent” in relation to the alleged attack. At the time of the incident, he was touring the UK.
Brown’s legal history includes a well-known 2009 felony assault conviction involving his then-girlfriend, pop superstar Rihanna. Over the years, he has faced several other accusations involving violence and misconduct, including claims of sexual assault and domestic abuse.
With numerous performances lined up across Europe through June and July, and a U.S. leg of the tour to follow, it remains unclear how this legal development will affect his schedule.
