The 85-year-old Pope Francis has urged people for a “concrete gesture” toward warring Ukraine during the Christmas season.

This was to celebrate Christmas more modestly by donating their savings to Ukraine.

He made the announcement during a general audience at the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall on Wednesday as he continued his weekly talks on the theme of discernment.

He said:

“Let us send what we save to the people of Ukraine who need it, who are suffering so much, who are hungry and cold.”

The Catholic Church’s head advised that people could cut back on festive spending this year and celebrate with more humble gifts.

Reports stated that the Pope prayed weekly for the people in Ukraine who are suffering under Russia’s war.

Pope Francis also encouraged Christians to be vigilant against spiritual pride and the temptations of “well-mannered demons.”

He said:

Many times we are given many graces and in the end we are not capable of persevering in this grace and we lose everything for a lack of vigilance. We don’t guard the doors [of our hearts].”
