A high-level political coalition meeting in Abuja involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and ex-Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi descended into chaos after a row over Jigawa State representation.
The gathering, hosted by the National Political Consultative Group (North) at the Abuja Continental Hotel, was briefly thrown into disarray when tensions flared over who would speak for Jigawa State.
The situation escalated after Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, named a delegate to speak for the state.

This move sparked outrage among several Jigawa delegates, who stormed the stage in protest and blocked the nominated individual from addressing the gathering. They firmly rejected the appointed spokesperson, insisting he did not represent their interests.
As tempers rose, security operatives, including personnel from the Nigerian Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and private security, swiftly intervened and created a protective barrier around key political figures like Atiku, Amaechi, and Obi.
Order was eventually restored after minutes of appeals and dialogue. To resolve the impasse, Mustapha Lamido, son of former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido, along with another consensus delegate, was selected to speak on behalf of the state.
