The Federal Government has established a 10-member committee to ensure the implementation of the recent Supreme Court ruling granting financial autonomy to local governments in Nigeria.
Daily Report Nigeria reports that the move comes after the apex court declared on July 11 that it is unconstitutional for state governors to withhold funds meant for local government administrations.
Five weeks later, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has set up an inter-ministerial committee to enforce the court’s verdict.
