The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to term bandits as terrorists and declare them wanted.

According to the Upper Chamber, the declaration will help to facilitate combating all forms of crimes syndicate by the security personnel.

Virtually, all assaults of various kinds that are perpetrated nation-wide are believed to have been masterminded by bandits who are mostly Fulani.

The Senate also broke the silence via the motion, sponsored by Senator Ibrahim Abdullahi Gobir and 8 others that Sokoto and other parts of North West are becoming a harbour for bandits.

Gobir gave a cue to Senators that on Saturday, bandits mowed down about 21 Security agents in the Dama and Gangara area in Sokoto.

He said: “Concerned that on Saturday, 25th September 2021, twenty-one Security personnel were killed in Dama and Gangara villages by the rampaging bandits.”

“This has gone to portray the seriousness of the problem which requires concerted and urgent action by the declaration of total war on bandits. ”

Similarly, Senator Kabir Gaya former governor of Kano also added that the Senate has invited Security Chiefs times without number to the Chambers to know what they were initially having funding difficulty.

To their dismay, the chambers were eventually funded, though accompanied with constant insecurity.

Senator Uche Ekwunife also asked the Federal government to promptly interfere in the persisting nature of kidnaping and assassination which have become prevalent in the whole of South East.

After deliberations, Senator Ahmed Lawani, the Senate President asked the Federal Government to declare the bandits wanted, asking that they be tracked wherever they may be.
