The 2026 World Cup has 16 confirmed teams after Uruguay, Colombia and Paraguay clinched spots in Thursday’s penultimate South American qualifying round.

Uruguay and Colombia won 3–0, while Paraguay progressed with a 0–0 draw, joining Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador as CONMEBOL’s representatives so far.
The tournament will be hosted across the United States, Mexico and Canada, who earned automatic berths.
Other nations already through are Japan, South Korea, Iran, Uzbekistan, Australia, Jordan and New Zealand.

This edition expands the finals to 48 teams for the first time.
Forty-three places will be decided via continental qualifying, while two final berths will be settled in the intercontinental playoffs in March 2026.
Confederation allocations include UEFA 16, CAF 9, AFC 8, CONMEBOL and CONCACAF a minimum of six each, and OFC one guaranteed spot, plus the two playoff places.
