The Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu, Ogun State, has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver involved in the fatal road crash that claimed the lives of two associates of former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, to February 25, 2026.
Kayode appeared before the court on Tuesday for the continuation of proceedings, but the matter was stalled following a request by the prosecution to seek legal advice from the Ogun State Attorney-General.

The Ogun State Police Command had, on January 2, 2026, charged Kayode with four counts, including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence.
Earlier, the presiding magistrate, Olufunilayo Somefun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦5 million with two sureties, pending the fulfilment of bail conditions, after which he was remanded in a correctional facility.
At the resumed hearing, the prosecuting counsel, Richard Nigiwe, informed the court that three out of four prosecution witnesses were present. The witnesses included officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO).

Nigiwe, however, applied for an adjournment to allow the duplication of the case file and its submission to the Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The defence counsel, Olalekan Abiodun, opposed the request, arguing that the trial should commence since witnesses were already in court.
Ruling on the matter, Magistrate Somefun adjourned the case to February 25, 2026, and ordered that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the Ogun State Attorney-General.
The case arose from a road accident on December 29, 2025, when a Lexus SUV conveying Anthony Joshua and his associates crashed into a stationary truck around the Sinoma area near Sagamu.
While Joshua sustained minor injuries and survived the crash, two of his close associates — Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami — lost their lives. Joshua was later discharged from a Lagos hospital after receiving treatment.
