- The FCT High Court granted an interlocutory injunction restraining activist Verydarkman from making further defamatory posts about Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin or his miracle products.
- Justice A.Y. Shafa dismissed all preliminary objections raised by Verydarkman, ruling they lacked merit and were purely technical.
- The court adjourned the matter to 27 October 2025 for continuation and possible conclusion of the defamation suit.
A High Court sitting in Nyanya, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has granted a full interlocutory injunction against activist Martin Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), in an ongoing defamation suit filed by Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin, founder of Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry, based in Delta State.
The legal battle, which has drawn public attention since 2024, took a fresh turn on Thursday as Justice A.Y. Shafa ruled in favour of Prophet Fufeyin, dismissing all preliminary objections raised by VDM.

Counsel to the clergyman, Ihensekhien Samuel, confirmed the development in a post-hearing statement. He revealed that the judge granted the order of status quo ante bellum—effectively restraining the activist from making further defamatory remarks or publications against his client.
“The FCT High Court today in two court rulings against Verydarkman dismissed all preliminary objections filed by Verydarkman and instead granted a complete interlocutory order of status quo ante bellum till the final suit is determined in respect of the case filed by Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Funfenyi of Deliverance Mercyland International Ministry in Warri, Delta State,” Samuel said.
He further noted that the court thoroughly considered the motion on notice filed by the claimant’s legal team before issuing the ruling.
“The FCT High Court today in its court proceedings delivered the court ruling upon hearing the motion on notice of interlocutory injunctive orders filed by Prophet Jeremiah Funfenyi, counsel Ihensekhien Samuel, before the court,” he added.
According to Samuel, the injunction explicitly restrains VDM from publishing any further libellous content about the plaintiff or participating in any form of defamation targeting him. He noted that all three grounds raised in the activist’s preliminary objections were dismissed by the court for lacking substance.
He quoted the judge as stating that “doing substantial justice meant ruling against VDM’s objections,” adding that technicalities could not be allowed to override the gravity of the claims before the court.
The case, initially slated for judgment on 2 July, experienced a delay in proceedings until the latest session. With Thursday’s development, the matter has now been adjourned to 27 October for further hearing and likely conclusion.
The legal tussle between the popular preacher and the outspoken activist stems from a series of social media posts made by VDM, which the plaintiff describes as libellous. In a statement of claim filed by Prophet Jeremiah’s previous counsel, Joel Karatu, in July 2024, the televangelist detailed numerous Facebook and social media publications which he alleged had painted him in a negative light.
According to the suit, the preacher lamented that the attacks caused him “incalculable damage” and subjected him to ridicule among church members and global business associates.
The case dates back to August 2024 when VDM publicly challenged the authenticity of several religious items sold by Fufeyin’s ministry, including a “miracle shirt,” “mustard seed,” and “anointed water.” The activist, who is well known for his anti-fraud campaigns, had demanded NAFDAC certification numbers for the spiritual items.
In a widely viewed 24-minute YouTube video, VDM conducted experiments on the products using people living with disabilities at a large facility in Abuja. He concluded that the items were ineffective and alleged that the clergyman was exploiting the vulnerable for financial gain.
Prophet Fufeyin, in his response, dismissed the accusations, insisting that the efficacy of the products is tied to the user’s faith and love for his ministry.
The court case has since witnessed multiple delays, but Thursday’s ruling marks a significant victory for the cleric as the legal process enters its next phase.
