Edo 2020

A Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital has disqualified the All Progressives Congress candidate in the Bayelsa West Senatorial district by-election, Peremobowei Ebebi, over alleged document forgery.

The judgement by Justice Jane Inyang followed a case of forgery filed by, a former director of domestic matters, Government House, Yenagoa, Richman Samuel against Ebebi.

Samuel told the court that the academic credentials and as well as the voter’s card the Ebebi submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the election were forged.

Justice Inyang’s ruling held that the voter’s card submitted by the former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state to INEC “bears a different age and, therefore, contradicts other of his documents.”

The court consequently declared Ebebi ineligible to contest the by-election as it upheld Samuel’s prayers.

Recall that the APC’s governorship candidate for the November 16, 2019 elections, Chief David Lyon was disqualified over discrepancies with his running mate despite winning the elections.

David Lyon’s victory was disqualified on February 13, 2020 by the Supreme Court a day to his swearing as governor while rehearsing for the occasion.
