An Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka has sentenced controversial native doctor Chukwudozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, to 11 months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to charges bordering on money ritual practices.
The judgment was delivered on Friday by Justice Jude Obiorah, who found the Idemili South–based native doctor guilty of engaging in activities linked to ritual practices for wealth.

Nwangwu was arraigned by the Anambra State Government alongside other suspected native doctors, including Eke Hit and Onyeze Jisos, on charges relating to money rituals, ritual sacrifices, and practices associated with the illicit acquisition of wealth.
In its ruling, the court held that the defendant admitted to performing money rituals and preparing protective charms for criminal elements.
The court further found that he was involved in producing talismans allegedly used by kidnappers and armed robbers, thereby aiding criminal activities through charms and related means.
As part of the sentence, Justice Obiorah ordered the immediate destruction of Nwangwu’s “Oba Shrine”and directed that he must completely cease all forms of Okeite practice and refrain from administering ritual charms in the future.
The court also ruled that upon completing his jail term at the Awka Correctional Centre, the convict must publicly denounce Okeite and similar ritual practices.
In addition, Nwangwu was mandated to serve as an Ambassador for Youth Re-orientation, a move aimed at discouraging young people from engaging in ritual-related and criminal activities.
His conviction followed a guilty plea to all three charges preferred against him, bringing the high-profile case to a close.
