The Court of Appeal in Lagos has upheld actor Baba Ijesha’s 5-year jail term for sexual assault. Originally sentenced by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo in July 2022, Baba Ijesha appealed the decision through his counsel, Kayode Olabiran.
In its ruling on Thursday, June 27, 2024, Justice Folashade Ojo overturned Baba Ijesha’s conviction on charges related to incidents between 2013-2014, citing hearsay in the testimony. However, the court found credible evidence from Damilola Adekoya regarding the April 19, 2021 incident, emphasizing Baba Ijesha’s confession in police statements.
The appellate court affirmed Baba Ijesha’s imprisonment for indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault from the April 2021 incident, stating the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
