The Zimbabwe court has given the reason for the exhumation that it is against the country’s norm to bury the corpse at his rural area in Kutama.
The country’s norm as the court mentioned is that heads of states are inhumed at the National Heroes Acre cemetery.

However, the family of the deceased including his three children have objected to the court’s ruling.
The three children are Bellarmine, Bona and Tinotender.
They argued that their dad had expressed a wish to be buried adjacent to the grave of Bona Mugabe, his mother.
In May 2021, the court faulted the deceased’s wife for disregarding the country’s norm, burying her husband in the village.
The court then fined her five cattle and a goat in addition to the order that the corpse be disinterred.
Having said that, the family appealed that the orders of the traditional court be declared invalid.
