  • The Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s request to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from effecting his removal as National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

  • Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo instead ordered Anyanwu to put INEC and other defendants on notice to appear in court and present their sides of the case.

  •  The case has been adjourned to February 24 for hearing.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has turned down Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s request to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from giving effect to his removal as National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Instead, Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo ordered Anyanwu to put INEC and other defendants on notice to appear in court and present their sides of the case.

Anyanwu had approached the court with an ex-parte application, praying the judge to restrain INEC or its agents from receiving or giving effect to correspondences and written submissions from the PDP except those signed by him.

After hearing the submissions, Justice Ekwo held that a case of urgency had been established, but declined to grant Anyanwu’s request through an ex-parte application.

He preferred to hear from the defendants before issuing any order. The judge directed Anyanwu to serve the court processes on INEC and Damagun, and adjourned the case to February 24 for hearing.
