On Friday, an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court remanded Prophet Adedayo Oluwaseyidara (30) in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services Ado Ekiti.
On February 12, 2022, in Iyin, Ekiti, the suspect, Prophet Oluwaseyidara, was accused of murdering a 17-year-old Emmanuel Adeyemo, in violation of and punishable by Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
Sergeant Sodiq Adeniyi, the Police prosecutor, requested that the suspect be remanded in order for the police to complete their investigation and to forward the duplicate case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
In her statement to the police, the deceased mother, Adeyemo Bisola, stated that her deceased younger brother was bedwetting and that she had taken him to the Prophet for prayer. The Prophet instructed her to bring the deceased, who claimed to be possessed, along with various types of fruits for appeasement to the gods as a result of a vision and revelation about him.
She concluded that after the Prophet prepared the sacrifice and concoction and gave it to the deceased to drink, the deceased began complaining of stomach aches and later died.
Magistrate Franca Olaiya, in his ruling, ordered Oluwaseyidara to be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services, Ado Ekiti, and adjourned the case to March 10th, 2022 for mention.
