Linda Mabi-Praise, a senior pastor of Temple of Praise Women Fellowship Global, Surulere, Lagos, has been served a five years prison sentence over a N128 million fraud.

Daily Report Nigeria gathered that the clergywoman was sentenced by Justice S.O. Solebo in a sitting of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, following an arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

A statement on the anti-graft agency’s website shows Prophetes Mabi-Praise, was faced with a three-count charge, including an intent to defraud, dishonestly obtained the said sum from Accelsor Investment Partners Limited.

The convict attempted to swindle the firm in the guise that her company, Mutano Energy Ltd. was an accredited oil and gas dealer, and was accused of issuing fake cheques to offset the said funds.

Mabi-Praise had pleaded “not guilty” to the charges when she was first arraigned in March 2019, leading to the commencement of her trial.

Counsel for the EFCC, Franklin Ofoma, presented two witnesses, while tendering several documents as evidence to indict the defendant.

Justice Solebo in his judgment, found the Prophetes guilty of counts one and three, which bordered on obtaining by false pretences and issuing of dud cheques.

The trial judge ruled that the prosecution counsel proved the allegations of obtaining by false pretences and issuance of dud cheques leveled against the defendant “beyond reasonable doubt”

Following a plea by the defense counsel Mumuni Qudus, for the Court to temper justice with mercy and to give the mother of two “a second chance”, Justice Solebo sentenced the defendant to three years on count one and two years on count three, to run concurrently.
