A Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out a N1 billion suit instituted against former President Muhammadu Buhari and former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele.
The suit was filed by an Abuja-based legal practitioner, Uthman Isa Tochukwu, who alleged that the 2023 Naira redesign policy caused him hardship and breached his fundamental rights.

Justice Inyang Ekwo dismissed the suit due to lack of diligent prosecution, noting that the plaintiff and his counsel were absent from court proceedings without explanation. “I am convinced that the plaintiff had deliberately abandoned his own case,” Justice Ekwo said.
The plaintiff had demanded N1 billion in damages, a perpetual injunction against withholding old N200, N500, and N1000 denominations, and a public apology in two major newspapers.
However, the court agreed with the defendants’ counsel that the plaintiff had shown no seriousness or commitment to prosecuting the case.
