Croatia Defender Gvardiol Completes Five-Year Move to Man City | Daily Report Nigeria

Manchester City have made an official announcement about the signing of Josko Gvardiol, a Croatia international, from RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

The club confirmed Gvardiol’s five-year deal in a statement released on Saturday, making him the second signing of the summer transfer window for the 2023/24 campaign. 

He follows in the footsteps of fellow Croatian international Mateo Kovacic.

Like Kovacic, Gvardiol started his senior career at Dinamo Zagreb, known for producing some of Croatia’s most talented players.

He enjoyed successful stints in his homeland, winning two Croatian League titles, one Croatian Cup, and a Croatian Super Cup before moving to RB Leipzig in Germany.

Gvardiol

During his time with RB Leipzig, Gvardiol made 87 appearances across the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons, scoring five goals and clinching two DFB-Pokal trophies. 

He also represented Croatia with pride, earning 21 caps and notably excelling in their third-place finish in the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

After being unveiled, Gvardiol expressed his excitement about joining the Premier League with Manchester City, acknowledging their exceptional performance during the previous season, where they won the Treble and solidified their status as the best team in the world.

He considers it an honour to be part of the City squad and looks forward to working with the esteemed coach, Pep Guardiola, as he believes his game will improve under the guidance of the footballing legend.
