The All Progressives Congress in Cross River has announced Mr Ekum Ojogu as its new acting chairman, marking a major leadership shift after the impeachment of the former chairman, Barr Alphonsus Eba, on Thursday.
Eba was removed following weeks of internal tension, accusations of financial mismanagement, alleged high-handedness, and strained relations with ward and chapter leaders. His removal gained widespread support, drawing backing from 18 vice chairmen and 196 ward chairmen, who demanded immediate change in the party structure.

Speaking during the State Executive Committee meeting at the APC Secretariat in Calabar, attended by zonal secretary Dr Edet Udosen and party executives, State Secretary Pastor Patrick Asikpo Okon cited Article 17(6) of the party constitution.
He said the provision empowers the executive to remove a chairman once a formal vote of no confidence is passed.
“Thirty out of thirty-two members voted for removal, that is more than a majority, it is a mandate,” Okon affirmed.
Ojogu, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude to party members for holding the system together during the leadership transition. He described the moment as a reaffirmation of internal democracy.
He said the unity displayed by the APC family proves that Cross River remains committed to stability and growth.
“It is time to sheath our swords and move forward,” Ojogu said.
“Whatever is owed will be addressed, your trust and patience are not taken for granted.”

He further acknowledged ward leaders, polling unit coordinators, and grassroots volunteers whose work, he said, remains the backbone of the APC in Cross River.
Ojogu pledged open-door leadership, stating that all party members can reach him through phone, WhatsApp, or direct meetings.
“The ‘People First’ mantra guides everything we do,” he added.
“Together; united we shall overcome. APC must remain one family.”
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the governor, Senator Bassey Otu, and urged members to sustain peace, cooperation, and collective development of the state.
