  • Aliko Dangote, President and Chairman of Dangote Group, has countered NMDPRA claim that local refineries meet only 50% of Nigeria’s petrol requirements.

  • Dangote stated that his 650,000 barrels per day refinery can meet Nigeria’s 100% petroleum production requirements.

  • The statement comes amid speculation about the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s continued fuel importation, which the company has denied.

The President and Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has countered the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority’s (NMDPRA) claim that local refineries meet only 50% of Nigeria’s petrol requirements.

Dangote stated that his 650,000 barrels per day refinery can meet Nigeria’s 100% petroleum production requirements.

During a tour of the $20bn Lekki-based facility with the Zambia Minister for Energy, Makozo Chikote, Dangote disclosed that the refinery produces enough petroleum products for local consumption and export.

“We have more than enough. The refinery is producing enough refined products, like gasoline, diesel, and kerosene, to meet 100 percent of Nigeria’s requirements,” he stated.

Earlier, it was gathered that Dangote said his refinery has over N600 billion worth of petrol in its stores.
