Businessman, Aliko Dangote has named a major refinery and petrochemical road the late Herbert Wigwe, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Access Bank Holdings.
Dangote did the naming on Monday, March 4, 2024, during Wigwe’s Night of Tribute ceremony as a way of “immortalizing” the late banker.
The road is a part of the Dangote Refinery located in Lagos, Nigeria. The road, which is approximately 120 kilometres in length, will now be known as the Herbert Wigwe Road.
Dangote described the late Wigwe as a loyal friend and a visionary role model with unwavering courage.

He made known his pride in naming his late devoted friend, mentee, and supporter.
The Businessman shared that he will forever cherish the warmth of Wigwe’s friendship.
Dangote said:
“To immortalise my beloved friend, my brother, and my mentee, I have actually decided to name of a major refinery and petrochemical road, out of the 120 kilometers, the biggest road will now be named ‘Herbert Wigwe.’
“I am proud to name him my devoted friend, mentee and supporter. I will forever cherish the warm of his friendship.”
Herbert Wigwe, his wife Doreen Wigwe, his son Chizi Wigwe, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former group chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, died in a helicopter crash in the United States.
The chartered helicopter was en route from Palm Springs to Boulder City in Nevada when it crashed about 96km (60 miles) from Las Vegas.
Wigwe founded Access Bank in 1989, and it became the largest bank in Nigeria in 2018 after it acquired its main competitor, Diamond Bank.
In recent years, he has been working to expand the bank’s reach by acquiring banks in countries such as Kenya, South Africa, and Botswana.
Checks revealed he was also planning to launch a new banking service in Asia in the first quarter of 2024.
