The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has terminated the employment of all Nigerian workers, just 24 hours after the majority joined the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
Political commentator Imran Wakili disclosed the development on X, noting that 90 percent of the staff became union members before the sudden mass layoffs.

A memo dated September 25, 2025, signed by the Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management, Femi Adekunle, indicated that the decision was part of a “total re-organisation” following reported sabotage incidents across various refinery units.

Affected workers have been directed to surrender all company property to their line managers and obtain exit clearance.
The finance department was instructed to calculate benefits and entitlements in line with employment terms.
The refinery management expressed appreciation for the contributions of the dismissed workers during their tenure but maintained the action was necessary to protect operational integrity.
Dangote Refinery has been in a prolonged dispute with PENGASSAN over unionization rights, with this development escalating tensions between staff and management.
