• Affirms commitment to global refining standards and compliance with Nigerian regulations.
The Dangote Refinery has dismissed recent media reports claiming it imported substandard or high-sulphur petrol into Nigeria, describing such allegations as “false, misleading, and malicious.”
In a statement released on Friday, the company clarified that the product mentioned in the reports was not finished petrol but an intermediate feedstock, which is a globally accepted input used in large-scale refining operations.
“The cargo in question is an intermediate feedstock, not finished petrol,” the statement explained. “It will be fully refined in our processing units to meet both Nigerian and international quality standards.”
Global-Standard Refining Practice
Dangote Refinery further emphasised that the importation of intermediate feedstock is a common industry practice adopted by major refineries worldwide to ensure continuous operations and product optimisation.

“As a complex facility with integrated systems, we refine and market only high-quality fuels compliant with both domestic and global environmental regulations,” the statement added.
Commitment To Quality And Transparency
The refinery also highlighted its capacity to export products to the United States and European markets, regions known for their strict quality and environmental compliance standards—further underscoring its adherence to best practices.
It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, responsible production, and quality assurance in all refining operations, while urging the public to disregard reports aimed at tarnishing its reputation.
