The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) alleges that the refinery is not meeting local consumption needs, citing manipulated consumption figures.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has pushed back against claims by oil marketers that it cannot meet local fuel demand. Officials of the refinery assert that the facility produces more than enough fuel to satisfy local needs and export to other countries.
DAPPMAN’s Executive Secretary, Olufemi Adewole, had stated that the refinery’s 650,000-barrel capacity is insufficient to meet local consumption needs.

However, a senior official of the refinery countered, “We produce more than enough fuel for the local market, and we export. We load out millions of liters every day. How did they conclude that we can’t meet local demand?”
The refinery’s officials also questioned the accuracy of Nigeria’s local consumption figures, suggesting they have been manipulated over the years. “Ask them to state how much we consume as a nation. Let them give us the real figure. That’s what they don’t want the masses to know,” one official said.

Aliko Dangote, the refinery’s founder, had previously stated that the facility would soon reach its full production capacity, producing enough refined products to meet 100% of Nigeria’s requirements.
The Vice President of the Dangote Group, Devakumar Edwin, reiterated that the refinery can produce 104 million liters of petroleum products daily, exceeding local demand.
