- Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway boosts trade and mobility
- Ogun seaport plans gain new life
- Faster travel across South-West and South-South
- Lower logistics costs, higher productivity
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has praised President Bola Tinubu for the vision behind the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, describing the project as a bold infrastructure investment that will unlock economic growth, improve mobility, and accelerate industrial development across Nigeria’s coastal states.
Governor Abiodun said the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway represents a turning point for coastal development, particularly for states like Ogun that have long struggled with limited access to major transport corridors.

Speaking on the impact of the project, the governor explained that previous attempts to establish a seaport in Ogun State were stalled due to poor evacuation routes, as major expressways were located far from the coastline.
“What this coastal highway does is bring critical infrastructure within a few kilometres of our shoreline. That single change makes port development and industrial expansion not just possible, but commercially viable,” Abiodun said.
He noted that the new road would significantly cut travel time between Lagos and coastal states such as Ondo, Edo, Delta, and Rivers, improving the movement of goods and people while opening up fresh opportunities for trade, tourism, and recreation.
According to the governor, reduced travel time along the corridor would also lower logistics costs for businesses, leading to improved productivity and stronger industrial clustering along the coast.
Abiodun also highlighted the importance of the proposed Sokoto–Badagry Highway, describing it as another strategic project that would connect rural and border communities to economic centres.
“Communities that used to spend several hours getting to Lagos will now be within an hour’s reach. That kind of access changes everything, investment, markets, jobs, and cross-border trade,” he added.
He concluded that when combined with township roads and farm-to-market routes being developed at the state level, these highways form a powerful foundation for sustained economic growth.
“By strengthening roads, ports, and transport networks together, Nigeria is positioning itself for regional integration, long-term investment, and inclusive growth,” the governor said.
