Nottinghamshire Police say detectives found the video earlier this year and have treated the case as one of the most serious.

Meanwhile, police charged the 43-year-old in August.

He is on conditional bail and is set to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court for an initial hearing.

A string of controversies has effectively ended Coote’s refereeing career.

Ex-Referee David Coote Faces Child Image Charge

A leaked video that showed him mocking Jürgen Klopp led to his suspension, and shortly after another clip surfaced showing him snorting a white powder during Euro 2024.

UEFA banned David Coote from refereeing until June 2026, and Professional Game Match Officials Limited terminated his contract in December.

Those decisions removed him from top-flight football.

In January, Coote publicly came out as gay and said hiding his sexuality, along with the pressure of elite refereeing, pushed him into poor choices.

He did not address this latest allegation in that interview; the matter now moves to court.

The charge remains an allegation until proved.

Magistrates will decide the next steps when the case reaches court.
