Grammy-nominated Nigerian superstar Davido has spoken out following intense online speculation after his loss to South African singer Tyla at the 2026 Grammy Awards, a result that has once again divided fans across Africa and beyond.

Davido was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category at the 68th Grammy Awards, held on February 1, 2026, but lost the award to South Africa’s Tyla. The outcome marked the second time Davido has been edged out by the singer in the same Grammy category.

At the 2024 Grammy Awards, Davido’s global hit Unavailable also lost to Tyla’s breakout single Water, a result that many fans are still debating two years later.

Despite missing out on the award, Davido remained one of the most talked-about artistes of the night.

The Nigerian singer attended the ceremony with his wife, Chioma, alongside close family members including Adewale Adeleke, Sharon Adeleke, Tunji Adeleke, and his longtime manager Asa Asika.

Davido and Chioma drew massive attention on the red carpet, with the Grammy Awards’ official social media pagesposting their photos multiple times. The repeated spotlight fueled expectations among fans that the singer had a strong chance of winning.

Amid the discussions, a new update circulating online revealed that Davido ranked as the third most mentioned artisteduring the 2026 Grammy Awards, underlining his global relevance despite the loss.

Reacting to the ongoing chatter, Davido made it clear that the conversations do not define his career, choosing instead to let his impact and reach speak for him.

“The award for Best African Music Performance went to Tyla,” the Recording Academy announced during the ceremony.
