  • Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has told all political appointees to either defect with him to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or resign from their positions.

  • The governor cited unresolved issues in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and concerns over election processes as reasons for his defection.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has issued a clear directive to his commissioners and political appointees, urging them to join him in his imminent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or resign from his cabinet.

Speaking during a State Executive Council meeting on Thursday, and captured in a video shared by Channels TV, Eno confirmed his move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, stressing that loyalty to him as governor was now non-negotiable.

“It’s no more news that I’m moving party. If you don’t know that by now, I don’t know what else you know,” Eno said.

He maintained that those unwilling to align with his new political direction should step down. “I am told that some of you are saying that you will not come, you are free, absolutely free, not to join me, but you won’t be in my state executive council,” he warned.

The governor explained that internal discord within the PDP and uncertainty around the party’s preparedness for future elections contributed to his decision.

“I love the PDP, I want to stay in the PDP, but clearly, I don’t have a road map to guarantee that I’ll be able to have a smooth sail in the elections… just on technical grounds, because the wrong person signed your form, you lose everything,” he said.

Eno assured that his administration’s popularity would ensure electoral success regardless of the platform. “In this state today, with the work that all of us have done, even if we contest on a zero party, we will win this election,” he added.

“You can’t be in my cabinet and play anti-party, it’s not a threat, it is what it is. I won’t beg you to come, you should normally not even expect it.”
