The veterans, who voluntarily exited the Nigerian Army in 2024, had occupied the ministry’s headquarters, accusing the government of abandoning them and failing to settle their outstanding entitlements.
Responding to the action, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Markus Kangye, warned that while the military recognises the right to peaceful protest, the occupation of a key government building was obstructing official functions.
He stated that the Defence Headquarters had instructed the veterans to withdraw immediately in order to restore normalcy at the ministry.
Kangye added that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain committed to their constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity, supporting civil authorities in maintaining internal security, and ensuring peace across all regions.
