The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has signalled his intention to formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing himself as politically “in transition” and openly aligning with the ruling party.

Although he stopped short of announcing a formal defection, the former Chief of Defence Staff left little doubt about his destination, saying his inclination towards the APC was already clear.

“I’ve not transited yet. I’m in transition,” Musa said, adding that his relationship with the ruling party influenced his decision.

He explained that the APC had consistently provided him with the platform to serve at the highest levels of national leadership, noting that this support dated back to his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff.

“Not yet, but I think I’ll be. Definitely. The APC has given me the platform to present myself right from when I was CDS till date, so why not?” he stated.

Musa, who served as the 18th Chief of Defence Staff from June 2023 until October 2025, also pledged unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that the success of the administration remained his priority.

According to him, the President required total backing to deliver on his mandate to Nigerians.

“Mr President needs all support, totally. I’ll give him all my support, whatever I can do to make sure that he succeeds in his call of duty, including moving forward to the second term. I think I’d give him my very best,” he said.

The retired General joined the Federal Executive Council following a swift Senate screening and was sworn in as Minister of Defence on December 4, 2025.
His anticipated entry into partisan politics marks a rare move by a former top-ranking military chief, coming shortly after his retirement and appointment into civilian governance.

Musa’s comments also come amid a wave of political realignments that has strengthened the APC, with several opposition figures and governors defecting to the ruling party in recent months.
