The meeting followed a series of deadly attacks on military bases in Borno State where terrorists reportedly killed at least three commanding officers holding the rank of lieutenant-colonel.
Several soldiers were also said to have lost their lives during the attacks, while many civilians abducted by the insurgents remain in captivity.
Speaking briefly before the meeting went into a closed-door session, Musa said the military leadership would reassess operational strategies to confront the insurgents.
He acknowledged that the armed forces had recorded casualties but insisted that terrorist groups had suffered greater losses in recent confrontations.
The defence minister noted that the security meeting was aimed at strengthening military operations and developing improved tactics to counter the persistent threat of terrorism in the North-East.
