Delta Assembly Approves Name Change for University of Science and Technology, Ozoro | Daily Report Nigeria

The Delta State House of Assembly has approved an amendment to the University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, with the passage of the University of Science and Technology, Ozoro Amendment Bill, 2021.

This move will see the institution renamed to Southern Delta University, Ozoro, if assented to by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

The bill was passed during a plenary session in Asaba on Wednesday, following the successful completion of its first, second, and third readings.

Governor Oborevwori had, on Tuesday, transmitted the bill to the Assembly for legislative consideration.

The Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi, moved for the suspension of Order 12, Rules 79-83 of the House Standing Orders, to allow the bill to proceed swiftly through all legislative stages. His motion was seconded by Charles Emetulu, representative of Ndokwa West.

The Speaker of the House, Dennis Guwor, who presided over the plenary, commended the lawmakers for their quick and unanimous decision.

He emphasized that the name change was a strategic step in the growth of the university. According to Guwor, the proposal for the change of name was made by the institution’s governing council.

“The renaming to Southern Delta University, Ozoro, will empower the institution to establish more faculties, positioning it as a more competitive academic entity,” said Speaker Guwor.
