The Delta State Government has re-awarded the Ayakoromor bridge contract to Setraco Nigerian Limited.

This was revealed on Monday by the Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Campaign Council for the state, Solomon Funkekeme.

The former lawmaker made the disclosure when the PDP Ward-to-Ward Campaign train visited Ayakoromor Ward 7 in Burutu Local Government Area.

According to Funkekeme, the Ayakoromor Bridge is an offshoot of a PDP government and as such, only the party would be able to complete the project.

He said;
“This bridge is a product of a PDP government led by Dr. Emmanual Uduaghan and I was Commissioner for Works. When the (present) government felt that the contractor was not performing, he terminated the contract and has now awarded it to Setraco, so that the bridge can be completed within the remaining period of this administration.

“Don’t let anybody deceive you that they’ll complete Ayakoromor bridge. They have not completed any bridge or road since 2015. They cannot come here to deceive you. Ayakoromor people are more enlightened than them.

‘Let me reassure you that the bridge will be completed by this government,” he added.

Daily Report Nigeria recalls that the Ayakoromor bridge contract was terminated by Governor Okowa in October, citing the slow pace of the contractor as a reason for the decision.

The Governor had said;
“Due to the contractor’s slow work rate, earlier today, at the Delta State Executive Council, we terminated the contract of the Construction Company that is working on the Ayakoromo bridge in Burutu Local Government Area.

“Our priority is to leave behind a #StrongerDelta, therefore, all MDAs and contractors that are executing government policies, programs and projects must do so with the understanding that timelines and deliverables must always be met.

“I am optimistic that over the next few weeks, following due process, we will find a new contractor that can complete the project as soon as possible.”

The campaign train canvassed through Odimodi/Ogulagha Ward 11, Obotebe Ward 10, and Ayakoromor Ward 7.
