Delta State Government has prohibited actors from journeying to waterways without safety gadgets.

The decision came in response to a tragic boat mishap on the River Niger last week.

Many lives were claimed underscoring the need for strict safety protocols.

In a heartfelt condolence message, Dr Nnamdi Ijeh, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, sympathised with the families affected by the tragedy.

The message, dated April 11, 2024, conveyed the state government’s deep concern for those who lost their lives while pursuing their creative talents.

Ijeh said:

On behalf of the state government, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the entire creative community. We share in your pain.”

He stressed that safety must be paramount during artistic endeavors.

Upon investigating the incident, authorities discovered that the survivors had been wearing life jackets—a critical precaution that saved their lives.

Ijeh issued a stern warning: “Henceforth, no water journey should be undertaken without life jackets, expert divers, and other safety measures.”

According to him, the state government considers every citizen’s life a priority, especially within the entertainment industry.

The letter, also copied to Dr Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), concluded with prayers for the departed souls.
