The Asaba Petitions Court for the Delta Gubernatorial Election has dismissed Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate, Kennedy Pela’s petition to challenge the election of Sheriff Oborevwori.

In Thursday’s verdict, a three-member court presided over by Justice C H Ahuchaogu argued that the petition rejected by the petitioner was incompetent and a clear violation of Paragraph 18 Sub-Section 1 of the 4th Schedule to the Electoral Act, 2022.

Pela had challenged the results of the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial election and asked the court for permission to overrule the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) preparation of Oborevwori of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the election winner.

INEC was the first respondent to the petition, Oborevwori and his deputy, Monday Onyeme were the second and third responders respectively, and the PDP was the fourth respondent.

Respondents also included the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate Ovie Omo-Agege, his running mate, Friday Osanebi, and the APC.

Pela immediately rejected the ruling and said he would appeal to the Court of Appeals.
