Ijaws in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State have warned against plots for Itsekiris to retain the chairmanship seat in the Council.
In a press conference on Tuesday in Diebiri town, various Ijaw leaders across the local government called on Governor Oborevwori to respect the gentleman agreement of rotating the Council chairmanship between the Ijaws and Itsekiris.
The recent warning is coming just over a month after stakeholders raised an alarm of a plot to impose an Itsekiri candidate on the people.
The leaders led by the Acting Chairman of Diebiri Governing Council, Comrade Alex Misoro, argued that since Itsekiris held the office for the last two tenures, it is only fair for the office to occupied by an Ijaw individual at the end of the forthcoming election.

They called on Governor Oborevwori to disregard all plots by Itsekiris to reclaim the seat, warning that it could lead to an avoidable crisis in the Council.
The statement reads;
“We, the entire people of Diebiri Clan in ward one, Warri South West Local Government Area wholeheartedly convey our heartfelt appreciation to the Executive Governor of Delta State. Right Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori for His effort in fulfilling his campaign promises, especially the area of peace.
“As Diebiri people, we want to specifically thank him for His prompt intervention on the unfortunate Okuama Community crisis and the peaceful return of the innocent people to Okuama Community.
“Haven said this, we want to use this medium to call on His Excellency the Executive Government of Delta State. Right Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori to maintain the same momentum of peace by allowing the Ijaws to have the next Chairman of Warri South West Local Government Area according to the gentleman agreement between the Ijaws and the Itsekiris
“As we all know, the agreement is the reason Warri South West is peaceful, and to maintain that momentum, it is our humble appeal that it should be allowed as agreed.
“Your Excellency Sir, this gentleman agreement between the Itsekiri and Ijaws is very paramount and a pointer to the peaceful coexistence of the Itsekiri and IjawsWarri South West Local Government.
“In executing this agreement, our Itsekiri brothers just have their turn of two terms, and it is now the turn of the Ijaws.
“While we appeal to the Governor of Delta State on the above, we equally want to beg our Ijaw and Itsekiri brothers to adhere to this agreement.
“We thank you all for listening, and may God bless you all.
