Delta Nursing College takes action against student for posting “Na Your Mama Be This” video.

Sowore, Effiong blast the college and vow to protect the student.

The Delta State College of Nursing’s query to one of its students over the “Na Your Mama be this” viral video has garnered lots of reactions from Nigerians.

The student identified as Osato Edobor was issued a query over what the school management tagged a ‘malicious act of recording/singing and posting an unofficial response to a song during the arrival of the First Lady found on your TikTok page.’

It happened that the First Lady of the country, Oluremi Tinubu visited the college during the week. In the welcoming ceremony, the students were assembled to chant a response song for her.

As the Master of Ceremony (MC) took the stage and led the “Na Our Mama Be This o, We no get another one” song in expectation of a response which ought to be “Na Our Mama be this oo’ call and response form. Things, however took a different form as many students changed the response to “Na Your Mama Be This o” creating a dramatic scene that looks hilarious and sarcastic.

Despite the many times the MC sang the songs trying to make the students get it right, the students remained adamant in their response insisting on ” Na Your Mama Be This O” a clear message that attempts to shade the First Lady negatively.

The video clip which has gone viral online was traced by the college to the TikTok account of Osato Edobor. Edobor was seen saying “We are on our way to Asaba to meet Tinubu’s wife, let me just switch to Pidgin – here, we de line as if we carry bomb – I no understand as if make we no go bomb Tinubu wife because we go really bomb the Tinubu wife. When the video got to the part where they sang, “Na our mama be this o, we no get another one, na our mama be this,” she responded, “Abeg, na your mama because my mama de house.”

The management demanded an explanation from her in 24 hours on why she should not be punished for such an act.

They said, “It has come to the notice of the school authority that you, Student Nurse Osato Edobor on the 25th of March, 2025 during an official visit of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON at Dome Event Center, Asaba for the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme and distribution of 10,000 Professional Kits (Crocs and Scrubs) to Midwives in each Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria South South Zone, was found to engage in a malicious act of recording/singing and posting an unofficial response to a song during the arrival of the First Lady (found on your TikTok Page). This is a punishable offence as enshrined in the Student Handbook under standardised disciplinary action for some punishable offences No. 8, Page 21. You are therefore requested to explain in writing in triplicate copies within 24 hours of recipient of this letter why disciplinary action should not be taken against you.”

Among the voices criticizing the query are human rights activists Omoyele Sowore and lawyer Effiong. They condemned the college for such action stating that it’s sickening and unjustified.

Taking to his X channel, Lawyer Effiong penned, “This is sickening, the fact that the college of Nursing would even contemplate this is astonishing and scandalous.”

In a lengthy tweet, Sowore stated “This video provides further details regarding the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences’ decision to penalize Nurse Edobor.”

“Given that the State Governor @RtHonSheriff was present at the event and recently appointed Provost Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, there’s concern that he may have influenced the unfair letter issued to Nurse Edobor in an attempt to appease Senator Remi Tinubu.”

He urged the provost to withdraw the letter and protect Edobor from harassment till she graduates.

“I am urging the provost to promptly withdraw the letter to Nurse Osato Edobor and guarantee her protection from further harassment or penalties until she graduates as a Nurse in May 2025.”

Meanwhile, the entire Nigerians are on the gear to see how this will end. Will Edobor be protected or will she face the music?
