Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) along with former PDP presidential running mate Ifeanyi Okowa.

Oborevwori cited the need for Delta State to connect with the federal government, stating that being in opposition for almost 10 years has not yielded desired results.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027, saying Delta State can’t afford to work against the President after officially joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oborevwori made the declaration at a rally in Asaba on Monday, where he and other defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were welcomed into the APC.
The governor said, “Delta cannot carry last. We have been in opposition for almost ten years. Mr. President has supported us, he has shown us love. We cannot face him in 2027 to work against him. That love that he has shown us in Delta state, we need to reciprocate it.”

The governor emphasized that being part of the ruling party would enable Delta State to benefit from the federal government’s initiatives and programs.
“We cannot do it in our old party, you have to be inside to do it and to do it well, The mass defection from PDP to APC in Delta State is seen as a significant boost to President Tinubu’s political fortunes in the state.”Oborevwori added
