The Delta State Government has tackled the British High Commission over a statement of insecurity in the State.

Recall that the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, FCDO, had cautioned its citizens to steer clear of 12 states in Nigeria, alleging of an impending attack by the dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram.

The states listed by the UK Government include Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.

He said, “We are surprised for British High Commission to have included in such statement.
“We wish to urge the general public to disregard the advisory because our Delta is safe and peaceful.

“Delta is welcoming to tourists and investors all year round. There is no threat to security in Delta.
“We don’t know where and why the advisory is coming from, but we want to believe it may have been an error.”

The Commissioner called to mind that the British High Commissioner only recently visited Delta while touring some communities in the process.

He emphasized that Boko Haram is known in the Northern part of Nigeria, and not in the South, or Delta State for that matter.
