Despite Being Wanted by EFCC, Former Accountant - General Wins PDP Governorship Primary | Daily Report Nigeria

The immediate past Rivers state Accountant-General, Siminialayi Fubara who was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over N435 billion fraud, has emerged the state’s governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 General Election.

Mr Fubara, who hails from Opobo Nkoro Local Government Area of the state recently resigned as the state Account-general to focus on his governorship ambition.

His ambition is widely speculated to have the blessings of the state governor, Nyesom Wike.

A total of 16 aspirants contested the election after a series of meetings and consultations led by Governor Nyesom Wike failed to yield a consensus.

Fubara had a total of 721 votes out of 890 votes cast to emerge the overall winner.

The chairman of the primary organising committee, Walter Mbotu, declared Mr Fubara winner having satisfied the conditions of the party guidelines and scored the highest number of votes.

Aspirants who participated in the primaries were former deputy governor, Tele Ikuru, Felix Obuah, immediate past Chairman of PDP in the State, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, Secretary to the State Government, George Kelly, Special Adviser to Governor Wike on Projects and Dr. Abiye Sekibo former Minister of Transportation.
