Direct CCB to Publish your assets – SERAP tells Tinubu | Daily Report Nigeria

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to request the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to publish his assets.

Also to encourage Vice-President Kashim Shettima, ministers, leaders of the National Assembly, state governors, and chairmen of Nigeria’s 774 local governments to do the same.

In a letter dated December 28, 2024, SERAP deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare stated that the organization welcomes President Tinubu’s decision to consider publishing his assets, but urged him to translate his intent into action.

“But your ‘consideration’ would ‘carry more weight’ if you were to promptly translate the intent into action by asking the CCB to publish your assets and encouraging your vice-president, ministers, leadership of the National Assembly and state governors, as well as the chairmen of local governments, to do the same,” SERAP told Tinubu.

The organization emphasized that secrecy in asset declaration forms provides opportunities for the abuse of public funds for private gain, and that transparency and accountability in government are essential for reducing corruption.

SERAP also noted that the Supreme Court decision of July 11, 2024, stopping state governors from taking over local government funds, must be implemented to ensure transparency and accountability in states and local governments.
