Popular Nigerian disc jockey, DJ Neptune, has refuted claims that he defrauded singer and former Big Brother Naija winner, Laycon.
Laycon had recently accused DJ Neptune of withholding royalties from their collaboration on the ‘Nobody Icons’ Remix, which was released four years ago, stating that he had yet to receive any payment from the song.
In response, during an appearance on the ‘Zero Conditions’ podcast, DJ Neptune denied the allegations, explaining that there was no wrongdoing on his part. He clarified that the situation with the song’s earnings was tied to standard industry practices involving distribution companies or record labels.

He emphasized that these companies often provide advance marketing funds, which need to be recouped before any profits are shared. According to DJ Neptune, this is the case with the ‘Nobody Icons’ Remix, and the misunderstanding may have stemmed from a lack of proper documentation.
DJ Neptune also mentioned that Laycon had contacted him about the issue, and he had referred the matter to his legal team, even requesting Laycon’s lawyer’s contact information to facilitate communication.
He admitted that while discussions between their legal teams were ongoing, he may have neglected to follow up on the progress, but stressed that a proposed percentage had been offered to Laycon’s team, which they rejected.
DJ Neptune expressed disappointment in how Laycon publicly addressed the issue, noting that it gave the impression that he had intentionally defrauded the singer, which he insists is not the case.
