Call for Contract Renewal: Oromoni asks Tinubu to renew existing contracts to safeguard national revenue.
Hon. (Barr.) Jeffrey Pere Oromoni, a leading Niger Delta youth voice, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reject moves to decentralize pipeline surveillance contracts in the region.
In an open letter, Oromoni warned that the push for decentralization is motivated by oil thieves, illegal bunkerers, and political actors seeking to destabilize the Niger Delta and undermine the progress of current security efforts.

“These calls for decentralizing surveillance contracts… are deliberate and well-orchestrated attempts by oil thieves and illegal bunkerers, in collaboration with political actors with vested interests, to destabilize your administration and reverse the progress made in curbing oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta,” the letter stated.
Oromoni highlighted that previous fragmented, community-based surveillance programs led to higher crude theft, pipeline damage, and environmental degradation, resulting in reduced government revenue and oil output.
“There was a time when pipeline surveillance was handled by multiple community contractors… Rather than reducing oil theft and vandalism, this fragmented approach resulted in poor coordination, weak oversight, and increased opportunities for criminal activities,” he noted.
The youth leader praised the performance of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and Maton Engineering Limited under High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo and High Chief Kestin Pondi, saying their work has restored stability, reduced oil theft, and strengthened cooperation among stakeholders.
“The current peace and stability in the region can largely be attributed to these efforts… Decentralizing the surveillance contracts at this time would undermine these gains and embolden those seeking to resume criminal activities,” Oromoni added.
He called on President Tinubu to renew the contracts of Tantita Security Services and Maton Engineering to protect national revenue, sustain peace in the Niger Delta, and secure the region’s economic future.
Copies of the letter were also sent to the National Security Adviser, the Minister of State for Petroleum, and the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
