Event in Benin cancelled in honour of late Buhari
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has advised Edo State governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to focus on governance and development rather than probing his predecessor, Mr Godwin Obaseki.
Wike, who visited Benin on Sunday, warned that investigating the former governor’s administration would yield little benefit for the state. He stressed that Okpebholo should instead channel his energy into delivering meaningful projects to Edo people.
“If there is someone who would have encouraged Okpebholo to probe and prosecute Obaseki, that person should be me, but what I suffered in ensuring that he returned for a second term and how he paid me back is now in the past,” Wike said in a statement signed by his senior special assistant, Mr Lere Olayinka.

Wike also addressed Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who attended the event, apologising for his role in past political clashes. “Leader, I know how pained you are and what you passed through. I humiliated you, and I apologise again on national TV,” he added.
The FCT minister was in Benin to commission the second phase of the Edo State Benin Central Bus Terminal. However, the event was cancelled as a mark of respect for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
