The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on Igbos to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, urging voters in the South-East to abandon sentiment and adopt a more strategic political approach.

Speaking in Abia State on Sunday, Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, told South-East voters that elections should be approached with calculation rather than emotion.

According to him, votes are political assets that must be invested wisely if the region hopes to negotiate effectively for power and development.

“Igbo, let’s invest our votes. Let’s not waste them. Politics is about numbers, not sentiment,” Kalu said.

The lawmaker stressed that building strong alliances across regions, especially with the South-West, where President Tinubu hails from, is critical to the eventual emergence of a South-East president.

Kalu praised Tinubu’s leadership style, describing his policies as tough but necessary.

“The policies were difficult, but the president stood firm and showed courage. Today, we are beginning to see the benefits,” he stated.

He added that Tinubu has shown fairness in governance, insisting that the South-East has not been sidelined in project allocation or implementation.

“There is no company that pays dividends when you haven’t invested. Our votes are the currency for negotiation,” Kalu said.

The Deputy Speaker also recalled his earlier prediction that the South-East would give Tinubu over 70 percent of its votes in 2027, a sharp contrast to the six percent the president received in the region during the 2023 election.
