A distressed community member told reporters that the scale of the killings was alarming.

“Killings are ongoing now in the Tiv community in Takum LGA. It is serious. Dozens of people have died and about six corpses have been recovered as I speak,” the source said.

Another resident accused authorities of failing to respond decisively, describing the attacks as deliberate and sustained.
Images circulating from the affected communities show lifeless bodies lying in open areas, highlighting the severity of the violence.

Pattern of Escalating Attacks
The latest incident adds to a troubling pattern of attacks on Tiv settlements in Chanchanji district, where residents have repeatedly raised alarm over alleged abandonment by authorities.

Community leaders say the violence has intensified in recent weeks. Earlier reports indicated that more than 100 people were killed within one month during coordinated assaults on Tiv communities in the area.

A senior cleric and official of the Northern Christians Religious Leaders Assembly (NOCRELA), Rev. Dr. Amb. Micah Philip Dopah, had previously expressed frustration over what he described as government inaction.

“People are being killed daily without help. We have written several pleas to the government but received no response,” he said.

NOCRELA has alleged that at least 102 persons were killed within 33 days in previous attacks and accused suspected armed militia of carrying out coordinated assaults.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Taraba State Government or security agencies regarding the latest incident.
The situation remains tense, with fears of further escalation if urgent security intervention is not deployed.
