An emotional scene played out at an Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, when a woman identified as Mulikat Yusuf fainted moments after her husband, Ishaq Abdulganiyu, firmly told the court that he wanted a divorce.

The incident occurred during a court session presided over by Judge Toyin Aluko, where Abdulganiyu declared that he was no longer interested in continuing the marriage. His statement reportedly left his wife in visible distress.

Before the husband’s declaration, Mulikat had pleaded with the court to intervene and stop the separation. She explained that after giving birth to six children, she had nowhere else to go and was not ready to part ways with her husband.

Witnesses in the courtroom said the woman appeared deeply troubled as she left the hearing, walking slowly toward the exit before suddenly collapsing near the doorway. Court officials and some sympathizers quickly rushed to her aid, splashing water on her face to revive her.

According to those present, the atmosphere was tense as many people expressed sympathy for the woman, who was later assisted to a nearby seat after regaining consciousness.

Reacting to the situation, Judge Toyin Aluko advised Mulikat to explore every possible means to reconcile with her husband, stressing the importance of peaceful settlement in family matters.

The case was subsequently adjourned until December 10 for a report on possible reconciliation or for further hearing if the couple failed to resolve their differences.
