DSS Detains Ex-PDP Governorship Candidate, Adebutu | Daily Report Nigeria

The Department of State Services (DSS) has detained Hon. Ladi Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 Ogun State elections.

Adebutu was reportedly taken into custody on Monday, November 18, 2024, under circumstances that remain unclear.

In a statement issued by the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Arc. Kayode Adebayo, the party expressed alarm over the detention, emphasizing that the reasons for Adebutu’s arrest have not been disclosed.

Attempts to secure his release, either through personal recognition or a surety, have thus far been unsuccessful.

The statement from the PDP urged calm among its members and supporters, assuring them that legal steps were already underway to address the situation.

“This is to inform members of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, that our leader has been detained by the DSS on charges yet unknown,” the statement read.

Adebutu, who has been an outspoken figure within the party, assured his supporters through the statement that this situation would eventually pass, characterizing it as one of the “prices of democracy.”

“Our principal has called for calm, assuring members, supporters, and well-wishers that this moment will pass. It is one of the prices of democracy,” the statement added.

The PDP also assured the public that further updates would be provided as the situation develops.
